When we finally took a look at all our bindings
we found that they were hanging by a thread
and though the blade looked ominous to our new findings
the sever felt like new year's eve instead
and a cold fall wind came blowing down the mountain
where the lightning bugs had said their last goodbyes
and the pounding in my veins found a new rhythm
each new pain's a blessing in disguise

And I found that I love waking with the morning sun
and in just two months I lost my chronic cough
but it's still easier to cook for more than one
and I haven't kept the weight off

So I cut my hair and tried a new obsession
Yeah, I shook the hand of trouble like a friend
and then I tried to answer "yes" to every question:
new drugs, new women, new attempts at sin
but my old path, it kept tugging at my eyelids
though it didn't kill my need to reinvent
the straight and narrow took a surprising direction
you don't have to wear the shoe just 'cause it fits

and I found that I love reading until midnight
and riding trains of thought until I'm lost
but I'm still always pining for the limelight
and I haven't kept the weight off

and I found that some days ask me to be lonely
and I need the country more often than not
but I still have the love that you first found in me

This EP is a re-recorded sample of their longer first EP, which was full of heart but a bit raw. These songs, however, are strong and well-crafted. Each track begs me to listen to every lyric and feel the effects of every measure. Their honesty, earnestness, and fervor leave a lasting impression and warm my heart with each listen. Not in how they sound, but in how they make me feel, the Collection reminds me of The Avett Brothers' middle albums. Tim Molloy
